This extraordinary pottery is produced in rural Maine using the ancient salt glazing process. At the peak of firing, when the kiln is white-hot, handfuls of rock salt are thrown into the kiln. The salt vaporizes and combines with the clay to produce the remarkable finish. Each piece of pottery is unique in color and texture since the vapor hits the pottery randomly. The pottery is oven proof and safe in the microwave. The pottery is nontoxic, very durable and can be used everyday. The patterns shown to the right are the MOOSE and the PINE TREE. |
